In 2022, we initiated a series of Design projects, with the objective of developing DigiTech solutions to address issues that affect young people's perceptions of the Police.

We want them to realise that they do 'have a say' about society and realise that their voice is important. This generation is particularly disaffected and removed from authority & government in general.

Description

A series of Design Events bring together young students, professional UX designers, members of the Police, government departments (e.g. Home Office, NCA & DSIT), Business and Charities – to workshop and design DigiTech products and/or services.

The project introduces students to real-life working environments, specifically in relation to the Police. It aims to change the perception that students have about Police in general and to show a more positive side of the police.

Working with real policemen & women from different Police Forces, we engage directly with students to address concerns and issues, showing a more engaging, less authoritative side of the police than students are often confronted with.

Beginning in 2022, students from London schools, accompanied by staff & parents, joined members of the COLP and the MPS Police Forces at a series of events in London. The project is now being rolled-out to include the West Midlands, North-West (Liverpool), South-West (Plymouth) and beyond.

Students are provided with a ‘real-world’ experience, jointly workshopping ideas for DigiTech Services, as well as being provided with refreshments throughout the day.

Representatives from the police, government, business and charities work alongside the students, providing invaluable experience, advice and tips based on their own experiences in their different sectors.

This will lead to the development of an actual App, designed by young people, for young people, to help them engage more positively with the police.
