The purpose of this project is to build students’ Business, DigiTech and Social skills and, where possible, lead them directly into career opportunities, including apprenticeships.

Description

Working alongside different employers and charities each year, students tackle real-world challenges by designing digital solutions that address issues affecting their generation.

Over six months, students work in teams to research their chosen topic, develop critical thinking skills and understand the challenges involved, before generating innovative ideas, and creating solutions such as websites, apps, and digital campaigns.

Along the way, they take part in industry-led workshops covering areas including AI, branding, UX, digital design, project management and employability skills, giving them the opportunity to develop practical skills and understand how these are used in the workplace.

The programme culminates in a Grand Final, where students from all participating colleges come together to celebrate their achievements.

Shortlisted teams present their projects to their peers and a panel of employers, sponsors, charities, and education partners, gaining valuable experience of pitching their ideas in a professional environment.

The programme builds digital and employability skills, develops confidence & ambition and opens their eyes to opportunities they may not previously have considered.

These range from internships and work experience, to apprenticeships, further education and careers in a digital world.

Accreditation

  • On completion of the Digital Skills project, students are awarded an accreditation from a certified accreditation company
  • This accreditation from the Open College Network (OCN) highlights to employers the skills which students have learned and demonstrated during the project
  • OCN offers national qualifications that are recognised through credit-based units and it is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA)
