Dymytrii Barbotko
Dymytrii moved to the UK from Ukraine following the Russian invasion. During his first nine months in the country, he focused on learning English and preparing for his GCSE examinations. He later enrolled at University College Birmingham, where he began studying for a BTEC Level 2 qualification in Information and Creative Technology. Through hard work and determination, he achieved a Double Distinction.
Before joining the Digital Skills Project, Dymytrii found it challenging to make friends and build connections. Naturally reserved and still developing his language skills, he now believes that the Digital Skills Project played a significant role in his new life. Working collaboratively with fellow students on team-based activities helped him develop his confidence, improve his communication skills, and build lasting friendships.
Demonstrating both commitment and leadership, Dymytrii took on the role of Project Manager, which not only strengthened his communication & organisational skills but also taught him how to work effectively with (and manage) a diverse range of personalities within a team.
In recognition of his achievements and personal development, Dymytrii was awarded the Alan Livett Award. Reflecting on this accomplishment, he described it as “proof that putting in the effort to improve yourself always pays off.”
His dedication and progress also helped him secure a work placement with Kainos, providing valuable experience within the technology sector and further supporting his career aspirations.
